Biography
of Raymond V. Panzarella
In his former life, Ray, 50, was a print and radio journalist in Arizona and Colorado for seven years. He used his bilingual skills to cover Mexico and the border region, where he worked as a correspondent for various publications, including Newsweek and the Arizona Daily Star. Ray graduated in 1988 from the UA College of Law after serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Comparative Law Journal. He worked for one of the premier Personal Injury firms in the state, now Haralson, Miller, Pitt, Feldman & McAnally P.C., where he mastered the skills necessary to try the complex Personal Injury case. Ray honed his skills as a trial lawyer working at the Pima County Public Defender*s Office and Legal Defender's offices in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was then hired by one of Tucson's premier criminal defense firms, then Ralls, Bruner, Valenzuela & Marshall, where he worked for two years, trying major drug cases throughout the Southwest. Ray opened his own practice in 1994. He became a CERTIFIED CRIMINAL LAW SPECIALIST the next year, and has since represented defendants in everything from DEATH PENALTY cases to DUI, in every court, from federal to juvenile. Ray has tried over 75 FELONY trials, and recently helped win an acquittal following a bench trial on what began as a double-murder DEATH PENALTY case in Pima County. Ray served on the GOVERNOR'S SYMPOSIUM on JUVENILE LAW in 2001, and has been a speaker at various CLE programs for the ARIZONA STATE BAR, touching on everything from juvenile law to professional responsibility. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, Pima County Bar and Arizona State Bar, and is licensed to practice in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court of Arizona.
